Last Friday we had the pleasure of finally meeting a wonderful lady called Jane Nandy. It was via one of her close and very proud friends, that we first learnt about Jane and her very brave decision to shave her head, all in the name of charity!
For the majority of us, our hair is what makes us; it is part of our identity - our DNA if you like! As seeing as the majority of you reading this will regularly visit us for your colours and cuts. I am sure you will agree, it is something no matter who we are, we care about!
However, Jane felt strongly enough that the best way to show solidarity and admiration for those who have lost their hair whilst having treatment for their illness, was to go through the process of losing her own.
In her own words...
"Cancer is such a terrible thing and we all have all known people who have suffered in various ways. Some, thankfully are still with us and sadly there are those who we love who are not.
Together we can continue the fight against cancer by supporting researchers working hard to overcome it." - Jane Nandy
We are therefore hugely honoured that Jane chose Mawson&Company (in her own words the "loveliest salon in Winchester") to help her fulfill her 'bald' decision to help raise awareness and funds for a charity very close to her heart - Macmillan Cancer Support.
A charity that helps to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. By providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support and also one who pushes for better cancer care.
Therefore, on Friday the 8th April at 10.30am Jane was sitting in one of our chairs in the very capable hands of Ross, our Salon Manager/Junior Director - to have her head shaved!
Jane was surrounded by her friends and family as the clippers came out.....
It is in fact said that 'one in three of us will get cancer and that currently two million of us are living with it'*. If you feel touched by this story or wish to support Jane and Macmillan Cancer Support. Then her fundraising page can be found at: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/janenandy2#.VwuEsG7Z9Tk....
Jane has very nearly doubled her fundraising target but her page is still open to donations until the 8th of July. Any small amount would be hugely appreciated as would your support.
We would once again like to take this opportunity to say what a huge honour it was to meet such a lady and all her supportive friends and family.
Jane with all her friends and family supporters showing off her new look!
